Story-Driven Visual Art
Every image tells a story. Through decades of illustration, research, and artistic exploration, Roberta Collier-Morales creates story-driven visual art that blends historical fiction, children’s literature, imagination, and visual storytelling into immersive worlds designed to spark curiosity, connection, and wonder.
Where Art and Story Become One
At the heart of every piece I create is a story waiting to be discovered. Throughout my career as an illustrator, artist, and storyteller, I have been drawn to the powerful connection between visual imagery and narrative. Whether inspired by history, imagination, culture, or the human experience, my work seeks to invite viewers into worlds that spark curiosity, emotion, and reflection.
With more than five decades of professional illustration and storytelling experience, these projects represent some of my most personal and ambitious creative explorations. Many of these works combine my lifelong love of children’s literature, historical fiction, visual research, and artistic interpretation. Each project begins with a question, a story, or a moment in history that captures my imagination and inspires deeper exploration.

Research-Inspired Creative Exploration
Every story-driven project begins with extensive research and thoughtful investigation. I immerse myself in the people, places, cultures, and historical details that shape the narrative, gathering visual references and uncovering the small details that bring authenticity to the work. Whether exploring historical events, cultural traditions, or imagined worlds, I believe that meaningful storytelling is built upon understanding, curiosity, and respect for the subject matter.
This research-driven approach allows me to create artwork that is both visually engaging and grounded in a deeper sense of place, character, and historical context. My goal is not simply to illustrate a scene, but to create a rich visual experience that encourages viewers to explore the story behind the image.
Children’s Literature & Historical Fiction
Many of these projects reflect my ongoing passion for children’s literature and historical fiction. Throughout my career, I have been fascinated by the ability of stories to educate, inspire, and connect us across generations. Through carefully developed characters, thoughtfully designed settings, and emotionally resonant imagery, I strive to create artwork that invites readers and viewers into compelling narratives filled with discovery and wonder.
Historical fiction offers a unique opportunity to bridge the past and present, helping audiences understand different times, places, and perspectives through visual storytelling. By combining research, imagination, and artistic interpretation, I seek to make history feel accessible, engaging, and relevant.

Fully Realized Worlds & Visual Narratives
Each project featured here represents a fully realized creative vision. From early concept sketches and character development to final illustrations and narrative themes, every element is carefully considered to support the story being told. These works often evolve over months—or even years—as ideas grow, research deepens, and visual narratives take shape.
My hope is that these story-driven artworks encourage viewers to pause, imagine, and engage with the stories hidden within each image. Whether inspired by history, literature, or the boundless possibilities of imagination, these projects celebrate the timeless power of storytelling through art.
